A large misconception is being transmitted by our government in the push to go green. Biodegradable sorbents are one of them. Bio based sorbents are fine for non-hazardous or non-aggressive liquids. However when these sorbents are used to soak up a flammable or reactive liquid it can spell trouble in several ways:
- Liquids can be squeezed out of biodegradable sorbents under landfill pressures.
- Spontaneous combustion and fire can result from heat generation
- Decomposition of the sorbent creates greenhouse gasses
- Once the sorbent is decomposed the chemical is left to roam free, contaminating the landfill and it’s runoff
Soak it up once for good! We recommend non-biodegradable sorbents to eliminate future liabilities from arising many years from now. Clean up and solidify liquids while locking up your liabilities.
